Dear Parent or Guardian;
My name is Mr. Koch,
and I will be helping your child learn mathematics and to prepare for the NYS
Math A exam this year. As we begin the
new school year, I would like to take this opportunity to ask for your support
and participation in helping your student achieve success!
You can help your student be a success in math this year by doing the
following:
- Make sure
your child has a quiet place for
homework, free of distractions like television, and schedule a regular time
each day for your child to study.
- Encourage your learner to do his or her best on all assignments, and to seek
extra help as soon as questions arise.
Students can get homework help from Dial-A-Teacher from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. each night by calling 262-5000. I will be available for extra help on
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in my classroom.
- Attendance is critical. The Rochester
City School District
requires students to attend 95% of the year’s classes in order to pass. In addition, math depends on an
accumulation of knowledge and skills, so the farther a student falls
behind, the greater the challenge in catching up. Besides, I expect to have great
students, and want to see them everyday!
- Make sure
your young learners get a good
night’s sleep each night. A
well-rested student is far more capable of learning than one who is dozing
in class.
- I highly
encourage my students to get a TI-83 Plus calculator. Having one and
knowing how to use it will give your child a big advantage when taking the
Math A exam in June.
I look forward to meeting you, and working
with you and your child toward a successful school year in Math. Please read the Class
Expectations sheet, sign
and return it. Feel free to contact me
at (585) xxx-xxxx, or email me at math@scottkoch.com .

Respectfully
yours,
Mr.
Koch
